“I teach kindergarten in a Philadelphia urban school, with regular, a few special education students as well as several ESL learners. This year I had 28 students. My students loved having their turn on Headsprout. They kept pestering me if it was their turn yet. It was a program easy to set up & monitor. With Headsprout, students were able to have individual, meaningful and non-threatening practice. These were the same skills that were presented in our Literacy Block through shared & guided reading, as well as shared and guided writing. The progress they made was great.
The best example of a child's excitement was when one of my (at-risk) Hearing Impaired children had just finished an episode on Headsprout & we were walking through the hallway & she spotted the word “See” on a bulletin board. She couldn't contain her excitement and yelled, “That's “see”! It was on Headsprout! It says, see.” She was beaming from ear to ear!!!!”

"My four and a half year old wasn't showing any inclination to read, but at the urging of a friend who wanted me to see what I thought of Headsprout (given that I work in education), I thought I'd have my son give it a try. I haven't stopped raving about Headsprout since. I watched it do its magic -- employing all the latest reading research -- and all the while my son thought he was playing a computer game, moving through space world, undersea world, and dinosaur world! Less than three months later, he had finished all 80 episodes (his insistence, not mine). He's finishing kindergarten now and he's a simply beautiful reader -- perfect pace, beautiful inflection, full comprehension. Still, if I ask him how he learned to read, he says "Headsprout!""
