Will Headsprout Early Reading work with my ELL students?
Knowledge Base Article ID: 104 ( Try another search )
Feedback from educators indicates that Headsprout is beneficial for English Language Learners, and many ELL students acquire fundamental English reading skills by using the program. We encourage the use of Headsprout Early Reading with all students and recognize that many additional skills for English language acquisition may be gathered through the program. Headsprout models English inflection, intonation, and pronunciation in a way that is fun for beginning learners to practice. Additionally, Headsprout offers students more “comprehensible input” than they might typically gather from a printed experience. Headsprout Early Reading is best used with students whose English spoken language may lack detail but is clear and logical (e.g., Level 3 or higher on the Language Assessment Scale-Oral or similar assessment).
